Diary of a First Time Mom

Sharing the most gloriously heartbreaking experience that is parenting

A Little About Us… Or A Lot

If you’ve made it to this page, welcome! I’ll start by saying this is my first real blog experience. I sort of tried once before buuut… well, let’s just say I knew even less than I do know, and that’s not saying much since I know VERY little about blogging.

Anyway, why you’re here. Something caught your eye on my page or I asked you to check it out. Either way, thanks for being here! I’m done rambling and getting to introducing myself.

Hi! My name is Tiana. I’m 29 years old, married to my husband and best friend Steven for almost 4 years, and a new mom of 1. We, hubs and I, originally hail from Long Island, New York, but now we’re in Eastern Virginia. Our son Caleb was born here in Virginia at home in mid December 2023. We live in a nice 1 bedroom apartment with our two cats Oliver and Kitty, and definitely not enough space, but we make it work.

I have 3 older brothers, all married, and only 1 has a kid, my nephew, at this time. My parents and 2 out of 3 brothers still live in New York for now. 1 is an hour South of us in Virginia, so that’s nice! For anyone who doesn’t know, New York is insanely expensive to live in, especially in the lower part of the state. I can’t speak for upstate as I’ve never lived there, but I’m sure it’s not that far off. We moved to Virginia mostly because of my husband’s job situation in 2022, and while there are definitely plenty of things I miss about living in NY…ahem ahem, pizza and bagels… I mean, my family, I’m definitely glad we’re not there anymore.

A ton of unnecessary life information later, I’ll share with you why I’m here…

I already mentioned my son was born in December of 2023, so as I’m starting this blog, he’s only about 3 and a half months old. In these 3 and a half months, I’ve learned so much about not only myself, but my husband, baby functions, being a parent, and overall life.

I know what you’re thinking. “Tiana, duh, of course you’re learning about being a parent. This is your first kid!” What I mean though, my mom and dad talked about raising me and my brothers while we were growing up. They talked about their challenges, ways they chose to be different from their parents, connecting with us, etc. As far as parents go, I’d say I had two of the best! Were they perfect? Hell no! Even they wouldn’t say they were, but I learned a lot from them as a tiny human growing up, and as a now-parent.

Which brings me to this point. I have spent the last 4-5 years learning as much as I could about birth, babies, pregnancy, and not enough on AFTER baby has arrived.

Did you know that sometimes baby spit up can look like cottage cheese? Yeah, I didn’t!

Did anyone ever tell you that parenting/Momhood as a whole is one big continuous glorious heartbreak? Because no one prepared me that revelation.

So I’m here to share with you all, the days of being a (first time) mom. What our days are like. New adventures, skills learned, pitfalls, the ways in which my heart grows each day as the shattered pieces from the day before knit themselves back together with a love I’ve never known before.
